INTERNATIONAL GITA MAHOTSAV

Kurukshetra, Haryana (15 November to 5 December 2025)

About Foreign Craft Fair at International Gita Mahotsav

The Foreign Craft Fair is a significant, specialized section within the larger Saras and Crafts Mela (Shilp Mela) at the International Gita Mahotsav (IGM). Its inclusion highlights the event’s global status, bringing international culture and artistry to the sacred land of Kurukshetra.

Key Aspects of the Foreign Craft Fair

  • Objective: The primary goal is to provide a platform for international cultural exchange and promote the universal relevance of the Bhagavad Gita by involving countries from across the globe in the cultural festivities.

  • Location: It is set up alongside the domestic Saras and Crafts Mela, generally near the Purushotam Pura Bagh on the banks of the Brahma Sarovar, running for the full duration of the festival (e.g., November 15 to December 5, 2025).

  • Participating Countries: The IGM aims for broad international participation. For the 2025 Mahotsav, the event witnessed participation from multiple countries, often including around seven international artisans and their teams, who set up vibrant stalls. Countries that frequently participate, bringing unique crafts, include:

    • Central Asian Nations: Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan.

    • African Nations: Uganda, and sometimes the Partner Country (like Tanzania in 2024).

    • Middle Eastern Nations: Syria and Egypt.

  • Unique Exhibits: Artisans showcase traditional handicrafts and products that reflect their nation’s unique cultural heritage, creating a truly global marketplace. Examples include:

    • Traditional Uzbek women’s clothing and jewelry.

    • Unique home décor items from Tajikistan.

    • Wooden products from Uganda.

    • Hand-painted artworks and leather goods (like camel hide bags) from Syrian and Egyptian craftsmen.

  • Impact: The Foreign Craft Fair allows visitors to experience and purchase authentic global artifacts, fostering goodwill and strengthening cultural ties between India and the participating nations, all under the umbrella of the spiritual message of the Gita.
