After the successful celebration of International Gita Mahotsav in the foreign soils in Mauritius and United Kingdom, the idea of celebrating the festival in Canada was proposed by social and spiritual organizations of Canada. The proposal was accepted by the Government of Haryana (India). So, it has been decided that the festival in Canada will be celebrated under the aegis of Kurukshetra Development Board in the month of September 2022. GIEO Gita, a voluntary organization of India committed to the cause of promoting Bhagavadgita globally will be a major organization for celebrating the event in Canada which has sizeable population of the people of south Asian and Indian origin and is active in Canada in the name of GIEO Gita Canada.

International Gita Mahotsav in Canada will be organized from 16th to 18th September 2022. During this three-days festival, an exhibition on the theme of Gita and Kurukshetra will be one of the major attraction for the visitors.

Astadash Shloki Bhagavad Gita

गीता 1.1

धर्मक्षेत्रे कुरुक्षेत्रे समवेता युयुत्सवः |
मामकाः पाण्डवाश्चैव किमकुर्वत सञ्जय ||

In the field of righteousness, the field of the Kurus, when my people and the sons of Pandu had gathered together, eager for battle, what did they do, O Samjaya?

गीता 2.47

कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन |

मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि ||

To action alone hast thou a right and never at all to its fruits; let not the fruits of action be thy motive; neither let there be in thee any attachment to inaction. �

गीता 3.20

कर्मणैव हि संसिद्धिमास्थिता जनकादय: |

लोकसंग्रहमेवापि सम्पश्यन्कर्तुमर्हसि ||

It was even by works that Janaka and others attained to perfection. Thou shouldst do works also with a view to the maintenance of the world.

गीता 5.10

ब्रह्मण्याधाय कर्माणि सङ्गं त्यक्त्वा करोति य: |

लिप्यते न स पापेन पद्मपत्रमिवाम्भसा ||

He who works, having given up attachment, resigning his actions to God, is not touched by sin, even as a lotus leaf (is untouched) by water.

गीता 6.32

आत्मौपम्येन सर्वत्र समं पश्यति योऽर्जुन |

सुखं वा यदि वा दु:खं स योगी परमो मत: ||

He, O Arjuna, who sees with equality everything, in the image of his own self, whether in pleasure or in pain, he is considered a perfect yogi.

गीता 7.7

मत्त: परतरं नान्यत्किञ्चिदस्ति धनञ्जय |

मयि सर्वमिदं प्रोतं सूत्रे मणिगणा इव ||

There is nothing whatever that is higher than I, O Winner of wealth (Arjuna). All that is here is strung on me as rows of gems on a string.

गीता 9.10

मयाध्यक्षेण प्रकृति: सूयते सचराचरम् |

हेतुनानेन कौन्तेय जगद्विपरिवर्तते ||

Under My guidance, nature (prakrti) gives birth to all things, moving and unmoving and by this means, O Son of Kunti (Arjuna), the world revolves.

गीता 10.6

महर्षय: सप्त पूर्वे चत्वारो मनवस्तथा |

मद्भावा मानसा जाता येषां लोक इमा: प्रजा: ||

The seven great sages of old, and the four Manus also are of My nature and born of My mind and from them are all these creatures in the world.

गीता 11.12

दिवि सूर्यसहस्रस्य भवेद्युगपदुत्थिता |

यदि भा: सदृशी सा स्याद्भासस्तस्य महात्मन: ||

If the light of a thousand suns were to blaze forth all at once in the sky, that might resemble the splendour of that exalted Being.

गीता 12.4

सन्नियम्येन्द्रियग्रामं सर्वत्र समबुद्धय: |

ते प्राप्नुवन्ति मामेव सर्वभूतहिते रता: ||

By restraining all the senses, being even-minded in all conditions, rejoicing, in the welfare of all creatures, they come to Me indeed (just like the others).

गीता 13.15

बहिरन्तश्च भूतानामचरं चरमेव च |

सूक्ष्मत्वात्तदविज्ञेयं दूरस्थं चान्तिके च तत् ||

He is without and within all beings. He is unmoving as also moving. He is too subtle to be known. He is far away and yet is He near.

गीता 14.16

कर्मण: सुकृतस्याहु: सात्विकं निर्मलं फलम् |

रजसस्तु फलं दु:खमज्ञानं तमस: फलम् ||

The fruit of good action is said to be the nature of “Goodness” and pure; while the fruit of passion is pain, the fruit of dullness is ignorance.

गीता 15.8

शरीरं यदवाप्नोति यच्चाप्युत्क्रामतीश्वर: |

गृहीत्वैतानि संयाति वायुर्गन्धानिवाशयात् ||

When the lord takes up a body and when he leaves it, he takes these (the senses & mind) and goes even as the wind carries perfumes from their places.

गीता 16.15

दैवी सम्पद्विमोक्षाय निबन्धायासुरी मता |

मा शुच: सम्पदं दैवीमभिजातोऽसि पाण्डव ||

The divine endowments are said to make for deliverance and the demoniac for bondage. Grieve not, O Pandava (Arjuna), thou art born with the divine endowments (for a divine destiny).

गीता 17.26

सद्भावे साधुभावे च सदित्येतत्प्रयुज्यते |

प्रशस्ते कर्मणि तथा सच्छब्द: पार्थ युज्यते ||

The word “sat” is employed in the sense of reality and goodness; and so also, O Partha (Arjuna), the word “sat” is used for praiseworthy action.

गीता 18.78

यत्र योगेश्वर: कृष्णो यत्र पार्थो धनुर्धर: |

तत्र श्रीर्विजयो भूतिध्रुवा नीतिर्मतिर्मम ||

Wherever there is Krishna, the lord of yoga, and Partha (Arjuna), the archer, I think, there will surely by fortune, victory, welfare and morality.
